THE TWIN FOUNTAINS

Even if they are called “twins”, St. Peter’s Square two fountains are not even sisters, having been built over half a century apart. The first, on the colonnade’s right side, is a work by Carlo Maderno dating back to 1616, under the pontificate of Paul V; the second is a work by Bernini, inaugurated in 1677 at the time of Pope Innocent XI.
