Famous for its circular footprint, this monument was one of the earliest structures located in the Roman Forum. The building contained holy objects including the Palladium, a statue of Pallas Athena which the Romans believed had been rescued by Aeneas from the flames of Troy. Numa Pompilius is believed to have built this temple along with the House of the Vestal Virgins in its original form.
