THE STATUE OF ST. PETER

Commissioned by Pope St. Leo the Great, it is said to have been made from the bronze of the statue of Jupiter Capitolinus. The sculpture carries the signs of great veneration, the right foot is indeed much worn due to the reverent kisses that millions of faithful have bestowed upon it across the centuries.
