THE SMALL AEDICULA

This graceful cross-bearing aedicule is due to the creativity of Ignazio Jacometti. Pope Pius IX had it built in 1869 in the center of the Tiber island to replace the column knocked down by the violent impact of a cart. In the four niches are depicted Saint Batholomew, Saint Paolino of Nola, Saint Francesco of Assisi and Saint John of God.
