Like every summer, one of the city’s most anticipated theatre seasons is about to start. The Silvano Toti Globe Theater, the only Elizabethan theater in Italy, was born in 2003 thanks to the commitment of the Municipality of Rome and the Silvano Toti Foundation with brilliant contribution by Italian talented actor Gigi Proietti. The Globe Thater is preparing to welcome its enthusiastic audience for a new season of great Shakespearian plays immersed in the lavish greenery of Villa Borghese.

By popular demand, Gigi Proietti returns to the stage as an actor with his critically acclaimed Edmund Kean. The calendar of the shows also features new productions, such as Daniele Pecci‘s Henry V and Daniele Salvo‘s Macbeth, along with some of the most popular plays of recent seasons, from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Riccardo Cavallo to The Merchant of Venice by Loredana Scaramella which debuted last year, up to Giuseppe Dipasquale‘s Troppu Trafficu ppi nenti, that returns at the Globe for the second time after 8 years.

In addition, the tradition to host a show in the original language will be confirmed this year with Much ado about nothing co-produced with The Bedouin Shakespeare Company directed by Chris Pickles. Among the scheduled events are also Love Sonnets, a journey among the most beautiful verses of William Shakespeare under the direction of Melania Giglio. Finally, the programme will be enriched by two special projects: Playing Shakespeare, curated by Loredana Scaramella, which will lead the audience to discover some hidden stories in the magical wooden O of the Globe and Shakespeare’s canto, a beautiful journey between music and words in the Elizabethan theater starring Pamela Villoresi.
