Located near the Vatican, the square is characterized by the Acqua Angelica fountain, built in 1898 by Francesco Buffa and originally positioned on the left side of the church of S. Maria delle Grazie. In 1930, as a consequence of the re-definition the borders between Italy and the City of Vatican, the church was demolished and the fountain moved to its current position, one meter below the street level and accessible by two flights of curvilinear stairs.
