PIAZZA D’ARA COELI

Not far from the Capitolium, Ara Coeli Square is the most important access route to the hill. The central element is the fountain designed by Giacomo della Porta and built in 1589 by Andrea Brasca, Pietro Gucci and Pace Naldini. The square offers a striking view: in a single glance, one can admire the Quirinal, the Forum of Trajan, the two churches of Santa Maria di Loreto and Santissimo Nome di Maria, and Palazzo Venezia.
