A typical sweet of Lazio kneaded with wheat flour, eggs, honey, butter, salt and usually stuffed with whipped cream. The original recipe also adds pine seeds, raisins, and candied oranges. According to the tradition, grooms used to present their future brides with a maritozzo hiding a ring or a small piece of jewelry: maritozzo is but the nickname expressing endearment for ‘marito’, husband.
