World’s brightest movie stars to shine at 13th Rome Film Festival

With most of the action taking place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, some intensive days await audiences at this year’s 13th edition of the celebrated Festa del Cinema. The building complex designed by Renzo Piano will host screenings, master classes, exhibitions, celebrity appearances, debates, conferences and panels, while the 1,300-square-metre avenue leading to the Cavea is set to become one of the largest red carpets in the world. Like every year, the event will extend to several other locations throughout the city, including the Auditorium and the Women’s Ward of the Rebibbia Prison.

Just like previous editions, ample space will be dedicated to the Close Encounters with directors, actors and leading figures in the world of art and culture. The first names announced include Sigourney Weaver, Cate Blanchett, Giuseppe Tornatore, Pierre Bismuth, Luca Bigazzi, Arnaldo Catinari, Esmeralda Calabria and Giogiò Franchini. The 2018 lineup will also celebrate Martin Scorsese, one of the finest figures in the history of the seventh art, bestowing him with the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Paolo Taviani. On this occasion, the American filmmaker, author of a remarkable series of masterpieces such as Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York and The Wolf of Wall Street, will take part in a Close Encounter with the public.

French actress Isabelle Hupert is also set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the hands of Toni Servillo, famous for his breakthrough roles in critically-acclaimed movies such as Il Divo, Gomorrah and The Great Beauty. Thanks to the support of local institutions, merchants associations and private sponsors, the streets of the Capital will host a busy schedule of initiatives focused on cinema, culture, new trends, fashion, design and fine music. On the occasion of the event, the airport is set to delight cinema aficionados with an extensive programme of screenings in designated areas of Departures Hall B. The result of a cooperation between Aeroporti di Roma and Rome’s annual film festival, the initiative will show passengers a comprehensive selection of the best airport scenes in movie history.
