Videocittà, a ten-day celebration of audiovisual culture

With more than 60 events scattered in 42 locations throughout the city, Videocittà is a world-class festival dedicated to the international audiovisual industry. The initiative aims at spreading an image of Rome as a unique, international place of artistic creativity, craftsmanship and technology through an innovative lineup focused on the contamination between worlds, crafts and audiovisual techniques.

Divided into 3 main sections (Video Factory, Unconventional Cinema, Cinema 4.0), Videocittà will reunite some of the most important brands on the international fashion scene along with Oscar winners, representatives from the world of cinema and television, stars from the Youtube world, emerging talents and artists who populate “the behind the scenes” of the Italian audiovisual industry.

Highlight of the 2018 edition will be the spectacular Video Mapping programme created by Solid Light, aimed at providing audiences with an unprecedented sensory experience. From the Basilica of St. Augustine to the Church of St. Mary above Minerva, from the Temple of Hadrian to Via Delle Muratte, pioneers of contemporary art will turn the historic centre of the Capital into an open-air museum of digital art. On October 27, Hungarian-based artist Laszlo Bordos will transform the monumental façade of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (Palace of Italian Civilization) into the most impressive architectural mapping ever made in Italy. A stunning form of visual contamination, this site-specific project will amplify the metaphysical dimension of the building by creating the illusion that the heavy architectural material is supported by light that will thus reach a solid state.
