The thick vegetation that once existed in the Colosseum, was cataloged by an English scholar, Richard Deakin, who, in 1873, dedicated a volume to the topic entitled “Flora of Colosseum”. In this essay, he pointed out that, in the amphitheater lived as many as 420 plant species, including asparagus , chicory, carnations and rosemary.
